Lets do it, go to the store get a caner you know that you have wanted to for years now. You and I both know it is better than that store stuff any how.
But not just caning! Better grab some freezer bags too. Now with the kids if you want an adventure! Think of things you like and can get, or have grown. Then go to your favorite cook book, or online to get inspired! Think of all the preserved Christmas gifts you can give! Sauces, soups, jams, jellies, chutneys! I didn’t even know what chutney was until 2008! Each time I go one one of these adventures, I try to add one thing I’ve not done before, just so I keep being challenged and learning new things.
We went apple picking! Because of that I made:
1 apple pie
3 apple crisp (and froze 2)
1 jar of apple jelly (the new one I have never tried)
1 jar of apple and cranberry chutney
Then I picked all my basil and made jar of pesto! Also I picked the last bit of sorrel and made my awesome American sorrel pesto. Yum!
I froze 2 bags of summer squash and 2 bags of zucchini so I can add them any soup, bread, or sauce.
I froze 3 bags of tomatillo, I cane make them into great soups. Also better then verde salsa all the time.
Made 2 jars of bqq sauce.
I have 4 bags of leeks cleaned and chopped, ready to head to the freezer. These are great little bits of green and spice that you can add in a lot of recipes, and they freeze well! I am thinking of making a leek bread pudding for dinner tomorrow.
Also apple fritters sounds sooo good!
Hope your harvest is plentiful this year!
