Making something out of nothing… For Christmas

How I made awesome evergreen swags for the front doors of my friends and family.

So I enjoy making things for other people and myself. But I never make myself anything. So I have gotten into the habit of when I want to make something for myself I will make 3 or more and give them to people I think will like the crafts too. I was lucky that there was no snow in the first week in December. With mild weather like that and evergreens and holly bushes in need of a trim. I was thinking how I would love to have a swag for my front door and back door. Because why not make 2 if I am going to make 1. Then I decided to make 6 and keep 2 for myself.

So I got out my ladder because all the untrimmed branches are to high up for my short stature to reach. As shown above.

The holly bush just needed a clean up so I filled up a 5 gallon bucket with the branches

Here is all the branches and a shoe of mine i found under it. I haled all the branches to my door to take inside. When my husband came home he asked why there was a forest in front of the door? Um…I am recycling. Confused and not willing to push the subjected he carried on with his day.

The next day I sorted all of them into small, medium and large branches. I numbered out each swag with 1 large 3 medium 5 small. It gave them a full feeling and then I added some white pine branches in my yard. To give it some different texture and finished it with 3 holly branches. I had wire from the dollar store.

Cut off a 3 foot piece and kept it all together with that and looped it in the back to make it easy to hang.

I really dislike waste and was super jazzed that I was able to take good ribbon. From Christmas gifts last year and make cool bows to hide the wire. All and all a good job in my mind. If a friend gave it to me I would love it. That is usually where I keep my mark at.

I hoped you get some ideas for next year, and are able to give a gift that just took a little time.

Here is a video that might give you some other ideas to try.
