Orange Beer Bread

Orange Beer Bread

I don’t like beer, it is not my favorite. I know, many of you think that’s sad. I really tried hard to like it. But alas, for me, those hop filled amber drinks will have to go to my husband. A lot of timesĀ  times we have a party and one of the great things about my friends is that they will leave some of the drinks they come with, like a nice bottle of wine, or a liter of a artisan soda-pop, or some homemade lemonade. Which is great! But when playing drink roulette I find myself looking at a few bottles of beer in the fridge I won’t drink, and they’re not the ones that my husband likes. So instead of wasting, I love to put them in soups, cakes, and breads.

I hope you like this recipes as much as my taste testers did. It will also light up your room with nice citrus smells while it is baking! Have this bread warm with salted butter. Soooo delicious!

What you will need

3 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 bottle of Beer of choice (citrus preferred)
2 large oranges zested and juiced
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 stick of butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
A bowl, spoon, and a loaf tin.

What you do

Pre heat your food furnace to 350 degrees.

Now melt that butter! In the microwave or on the stove top, use a dollop of the melted butter to grease the loaf pan. Add the sugar, salt, and the butter to a bowl, stir until incorporated. Take a moment to smell it. That flavor sugar, butter, and salt is so comforting to me. Back on topic. Add the oats, orange zest, and juice then stir well. Now the fun part. In goes the whole bottle of beer. Stir afterwards, and add in the flour a bit at a time. Keep mixing until all the ingredients are combined. Pour this flowing pale batter in to the buttered loaf pan, and place it in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the internal temperature is 200 degrees

Serve on its own, or for a side. It is great anytime of year, but I especially like it in the spring. Enjoy with you family and friends!
